MRI and the AnimalScan Advantage
AnimalScan has been performing MRI’s on dogs, cats, and the occasional zoo animal for over 15 years. No one comes close to providing the service, safety and diagnostic capability for your clients and their pets like we do. Patient care is supervised by a Board Certified Veterinary Anesthesiologist and MRI results are interpreted by our Board Certified Veterinary Radiologists. To insure the best care and imaging possible, our staff includes experienced licensed MRI technologists and veterinary technicians.
We use state-of-the-art Siemens 1.5 tesla MRIs and specialized MRI compatible anesthesia monitoring equipment and modern anesthesia techniques to insure the safest possible experience during the scan. Anesthesia is supervised by our Board Certified Veterinary Anesthesiologist and performed with the assistance of our veterinary technician and DVMs.
Pets occasionally have internal metallic objects (bone plates, pins and wires used to repair fractures) or BB shots at various locations. These are rarely dangerous for the patient but they can cause large image artifacts that may make MRI studies undiagnostic. Please contact us if you have questions about the region to be scanned relative to any metal in the patient that you are aware of. Microchips will not be damaged and are only an issue in very small patients in proximity to the area of interest, where they create image distortion (for example, cervical spine scans in cats).
Images are made available to you on the day of the scan. Our Board Certified Veterinary Radiologist will review the images and provide a detailed written report emailed to you by noon on the business day following the scan. For emergency situations we can arrange for a stat read, in which case our radiologist will give you a phone report within 2 hours of scan completion.
We scan by region and charges are based on the number of regions to be scanned.
